Taking Care on the Road: Carolyn Weiss Inspires Students with Mobile Dental Practice

We were proud to welcome alumna Carolyn Weiss (Dental Assisting ’94, Dental Hygiene ’06) back to campus on April 14, 2026, where she connected with Year 3 Dental Hygiene students through an engaging and hands-on learning experience.

Carolyn’s journey reflects the impact Confederation College graduates continue to make in their communities. After completing both Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene, she recognized a need for more accessible oral health care across Thunder Bay and surrounding areas. In response, she launched Carolyn Weiss Mobile Dental Hygiene Services in 2017, providing care directly to individuals who may face barriers accessing traditional clinic settings.

Her mobile practice, delivered from a converted ambulance, brings dental hygiene services to long-term care homes, private residences, and assisted living environments. This approach helps ensure patients receive care where they are most comfortable and where access may otherwise be limited.

During her visit, students toured the mobile unit and heard firsthand about Carolyn’s career path, business development, and the realities of providing care in non-traditional settings. Joined by her colleague Janet Baillie, she also led a presentation and Q&A session that sparked meaningful discussion and curiosity among students.

Opportunities like this give students a valuable connection between classroom learning and real-world practice, while highlighting the many ways graduates are shaping health care in our region.

We thank Carolyn for returning to campus and sharing her time, experience, and passion with the next generation of dental professionals.
